whiplash pain and thyroid problem connected

In Aug 07 I was rear ended by a truck. Since day one I had severe neck and shoulder pain...about a month and half later they found a goiter that showed up in my mri. Now a little over a year later I have all kinds of nodules with the goiter. Can these nodules form from whiplash injury or is this just a coincidence? I still have not been able to return to work due to neck, shoulder and right arm pain. Does anyone have any similiar problems or know of anyone who developed thyroid problems after neck injury??? thanks

Thyroid problems such as nodules are indeed linked to impeded lymph drainage, and the impeded lymph drainage can be caused by neck injury. This is why the problems show up after trauma.

Hi
I have the exact same thing going on, I had a car accident where someone drove into the back of my car, and the following year I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid... although mine has now taken its time to come out, I to have a multinodular goitre.  I have been trying for a while to find a medical link between the two, and have come to a dead end, my case has been closed now, and although I got damages for whiplash and my car, you dont really know what the long term damage is going to be until it starts to affect you.

Hello,

Whiplash injury leading to thyroid nodule is very rare.Mostly the causative factors for thyroid nodule include age(younger than 20 years or older than 70),sex(more in males),family history of thyroid carcinoma and multiple endocrine neoplasia and radiation exposure of the neck, yet in a journal of the American College of Endocrinology and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists,it has been mentioned that cases have been reported in which thyroid  nodule developed after trauma to the neck esp in accidents. You can read more about this from:
