Need Some Info

For the past week and a half I have had some new symptoms that I have never experienced.

Pain in the kidney area along with flank pain

The pain is moderate to low and is thru out the day... Since then, I have noticed that my urine is foamy almost everytime I urinate.  I have also felt more sleepy then usual

I have also noticed my pains increase right after I eat something

I was taking Sporanox for ringworm then had another type of infection and was perscribed Levaquin for that...  I noticed the pain right when I started taking the Levaquin, but thought nothing of it..  I was taking the Sporanox and the Levaquin at the same time for about 3 days then finished my Levaquin perscription.. I have stopped taking all medicines for about 3 days, but I still have the above symptoms..

I am seeing a urologist and he examined my urine and said it appeared normal (same day)
he has ordered an ultrasound of my kidneys to eliminate the poss of kidney stones. (I do that tomorrow)

I have taken Levaquin in the past and had never had any issues with it..

Could the mixture of medications have caused problems with my kidneys?

If so, will it go away eventually now that I have stopped taken all the medication?

Could the medication of caused permanent damage to my kidneys?

If my ultrasound comes out normal what are the next steps I should do to make sure my kidneys are alright??

Thanks for your help

I agree with the workup thus far.  The ultrasound can rule out anatomical problems with the kidneys.

To evaluate kidney function, I would consider blood tests to evaluate the creatinine.  Testing the urine for protein levels can also be done.

Levaquin needs to be dose-adjusted if there is a decrease in kidney function.  Persistent high levels can damage the kidney.

I would also look at the urine sediment under the microscope - findings here can possibly point to disease.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
