Hi:

I have been married for 6 years and never had an STD. From time to time after masturbation or a hand-job from wife I have some pain with peeing. For the next 48 hours or so I have symptoms of frequency (but no urgency) I recently returned from a business trip in asia where I received a sensual massage. Some of this involved a shower and soapy water - she also sucked on my fingers. There was no oral or genital sex. I did masturbate (without washing my hand)after the "massuese" left the room. The next day I immediately had the above symptoms. I was on cipro for travelers diarhhea at the time. Now 1 week later after a vigorous handjob from my wife I have the symmptoms again.

So....here are my questions

1) Could I have an STD?

2) If not...could mechanical trauma be causing my symptoms?

3) I feel weird about the massage...could this all be psychosomatic (except that I've had these symptoms in the past)

thanks!!!

To answer your question:
1) An STD is possible.  You can consider a urethral swab and urine tests to evaluate for gonorrhea or chlamydia.

2) If infection is ruled out, an anatomical abnormality such as a urethral stricture or polyp can be considered.  A cystoscopy can be done to evaluate these possibilities.

3) I would only consider psychosomatic causes if all other causes have been evaluated for.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
