prostatis

about 6 months ago ( maybe more ) i began having aching in the groin area.saw doctor..he said it was nothing. couple days later it burned once when urinating..a couple days later..everything went totally away.i have not been sexually active for over 1 year.recent test for hiv and hep b..negative. now...about a little over a month ago..same pain..burned once when urinating. doctor took urine test..trace of blood found in urine. saw urologist..perscribed ciprofloaxacin for 10 days. and asked for ultrasound of abdomen and pelvic. ( both came back negative ) took urine cytology ( negative ) after that..started having cramping in back..left and right..chills every now and then..and discomfort at tip of penis. at first.i was urinating often..especially at night( i was drinking ALOT of water with the cipro ) now i'm having difficulty urinating ( dribbling )
my urologist isn't coming back till mid january..i saw another doc and he told me its probably prostatis.
question 1-  the cipro didn't really help..what could this mean? do i need different antibiotic?
2-  is it safe to wait for urologist till he gets back..should i go to the hospital?
3-  the doctor at the ultrasound said himself that my symptoms are probably prostatis..but did not notice any swelling of prostate? does that mean it could be something else?
4-  prior to trying different meds...will i have to got through many tests ..are they extremely painfull?
5- is it safe to masturbate..maybe once or twice a week at this point ( i feel like a ticking time bomb at times..lol )
6- does taking a bath and antiinflamatorys like apo-naproxen help.
i apologize for so many questions..and i appreciate your help.. thankyou for your time.

the anti-inflammatories are helping a bit with the pain..but not the urininary problems. dribbling....i allways feel as if i'm not done..and go back to the bathroom shortly after..real annoying. thanks for your help doc.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
To answer your questions:
1) If the Cipro isn't effective, it may mean that the infection is not bacterial in nature, or the bacteria is resistant to the Cipro.

2) I cannot answer that without examination.  If there is doubt, I would see a physician ASAP.

3) A transrectal ultrasound would be needed for further evaluation of the prostate.  A digital rectal exam also would be helpful.

4) I cannot answer without knowing what tests your urologist had in mind.

5) Prostatitis is not a contraindication to masturbation.

6) Anti-inflammatories may help with the discomfort associated with prostatitis.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
