urethral irritation

having stinging pain upon urination.( worse in the morning time than in the afternoon and night. warm shower helps).had urine cultures x 3 which has been negative. seen gyn-no inflammation seen around the vaginal area. std test negative. last year had the same symptoms but had a UTI. took cipro which killed the bacteria however, the burning/stinging pain upon urination was still present. saw a urologist had a kidney scan which was normal and another test where a catheter was inserted inside the urethra which was normal as well. after the test few days later symptoms totally gone.

now dealing with the same burning/stinging pain upon void, feels like inside of the urethra the skin is damaged but not sure. any suggestions.

I have been on several different antibiotics over the course of the past month (Doxycycline 11 days, Metronidazole 7days, and I am currently on valtrex).  I have finished all of the other medications, but I am currently on Valtrex twice a day for another five days.  Recently, I have not be urinating as much as a usually do.  However, if I drink a bunch of liquid in a short period of time, I will urinate normally, but if i don't drink alot, i still urinate it just doesn't seem to be as much as i used to.  My question is, could the medications that I listed above be causing me to have acute renal failure?  I have no swelling, no metallic taste in my mouth, no vomiting or nausea.  It just seems that I am urinating less than I used to.  Does this sound like acute renal failure to you?  Do these medications usually cause acute renal failure?  Should I see a doctor?

thank you dr. liroff for your reply. i have a question that i am wondering if you can answer. when some people say that cystoscopy causes dilation. my question is what casues the dilation. Is it the act of a catheter inserted into the urethra causes dilation or the amount of fluid that is instilled into the bladder that causes dilation. i thank you in advance for your help. have a great day.

If you are post menopause, then I would suggest premarin vaginal cream (1/2 applicator per vagina every evening for a month, then once a week). This is ultimately a very low dose of hormone and does not require any progesterone nor does it even approach estrogen replacement. Very low risk, but I would certainly recommend a pelvic exam and breast exam/mammogram before starting.
If you are not menopausal, you can use pyridium daily, 100-200 mg. tablets up to 3 per day. Also, get a pelvic MRI looking for a urethral diverticulum.
