Deficiencies and muscle twitching

Hi everyone,

I have been having muscle twitching for the past few months. It just happens randomly in different parts of my body every once in a while. It all started 7 months back when my physiotherapist told me that my body muscles were very tight, especially the shoulders and calf muscles. However the muscle tightness has significantly improved these days.

However the muscle twitching has not stopped. During this 7 month period I started having anxiety, started to become more confused in daily life tasks and my memory isnt as sharp as it was. Is there any vitamin/mineral deficiency which can cause these psychological and muscle symptoms? I carried out a lot of blood tests to check the muscle twitching such as electrolyte levels, thyroid function, kidney function and such. However everything was normal except a low iron level in my blood. Could it be magnesium deficiency,B1, B12 or Vitamin D? Since i did not get tested for those.

I eat green leafy vegetables every once in a while and I also consume a lot of dairy. Should I ask the neurologist for a magnesium test?

I'm not sure that's what neurologists do, and certainly not what they do well.  Eating too much dairy can give you too much calcium and deplete your system of magnesium, that's why I asked, while green leafy vegetables have a good balance of calcium and magnesium.  Personally, I'd try taking a magnesium supplement, a citrate or taureate, not a huge dose so you don't deplete yourself of other electrolytes, and see if it helps.  If you really want good testing you pretty much have to find a good holistic nutritionist who will test you over time.

Do you eat green leafy vegetables?  Consume a lot of dairy?  Take any medications?  Because the thing it mostly sounds like is a magnesium problem.

Twitching can be caused by anxiety and stress! coffee, overexercise can also cause twitching also some medications. Have you seen a Neurologist?
As nerve damage can be a problem. Low magnesium could cause spasms.
If all is normal I suggest trying a foam roller. google how to use a foam roller.

Hi it has been 1 month now since I have started using the magnesium oxide supplements. My anxiety has improved but not my twitching which carries on until today. Could it be because I'm taking the wrong form of magnesium? Maybe I should buy magnesium citrate or otherwise it means I don't have a magnesium deficiency.
