Can I get some input/suggestions on how to loose this weight?

I have had 3 babies in the past 3 years, each pregnancy was filled with sickness, bed rest and lots of meds. It has taken its toll on my body. From where I am now, I have 85 pounds to loose from my pre- pregnancy weight. Trying to research the most effective and stable ways to loose this weight. But as you can imagine my hands are full and I don't have alot of excess time to spend on this, however I gotta do what I gotta do to be healthy!

I currently weigh 205 pounds and am 5'2. I would like to return to 120. Quite frankly at this point I would be exstatic to be 150!

I have done a little bit of surfing on this site but thought it would be easier just to post and ask for input, on myself.

My stats are above, currently I do not 'work out' but am making arrangements to be able to do so. I would consider myself otherwise average active. I chase a 3, 2 year olds and a 7 month old all day long, (stay at home mom), and am constantly cleaning house! We focus on eating fresh foods (non packaged, etc) and balanced diet. I have not been keeping a food journal but have decided to begin.

I understand that a deficit of 500 calories a day equals a pound per week? What other information can you add to help me sort out my calorie weight loss needs? Any other recommendations?

Thanks for your post!

I think you have recognized one of the best things about a food diary - not only does it make you record what you eat, but ideally you are recording how much you are having.  It sounds like you have a balanced diet, but you just want to make sure that you aren't having too much of it!

I think it's great that you are setting aside a little time to get some exercise.  For most people, calorie restriction in whatever form is usually the most efficient way to lose weight, although exercise obviously plays an important role - both in weight loss and overall health.

Also think about making sure that you are getting enough fluids, and be very careful about munching on your kids' food to motivate them to eat more or just so that you don't waste it - it's an easy source of extra unwanted calories.

Jaquta asked about my book - thanks for asking!  The Single Pound Diet won't be in stores for another year, unfortunately - publishing is a long process, I'm learning! - but I will definitely keep readers posted.  Hopefully it will help people focus their larger weight loss goals in easier to manage, single pound increments that will make things seem more realistic.

All the best,
JB

The doctor has already answered about the book.  It wasn't technically a question but I'm glad he took the initiative and answered it.
It's unfortunate about the book but like they say, "All good things take time."

As your son gets older he should start sleeping through the night.

Starting the log shows a degree of commitment and from what you write it sounds as though you're motivated.  Both traits, I think, are important for long-term weight loss.
I think food diaries are a great weight-loss tool.

I think the doctor made a good point about munching on your kid's food.
My sister fell into that habit with her son and it just became so subconscious.  Overall, it can significantly impact on weight loss.

Regarding sleep, could your husband or partner, etc take care of the children for a bit so that you could catch up on some much needed rest?  I hope they aren't as sleep deprived as you are.  Even some time out could be beneficial.

What book are you referring to?

Well the youngest is still not sleeping thru the night, in fact he is up every 3 hours or so. STILL. Not sleeping is getting a bit old, and of course there is no time or opportunity for a nap during to day to get caught up.

Yesterday I began the log... so recording food intake is making me make be sure I know HOW MUCH of what I am actually eating instead of assuming I am having the actual serving amount.

Hi.  I feel exhausted just reading about your kids.
I think keeping a food diary is an excellent idea.
I think maybe looking at portion sizes or how often you are eating may be useful.
I think reading through the doctor's earliest blog would also be helpful.
Getting adequate sleep may also help.

I was actually thinking about the doctor's book the other day and was keen to see when that would be available.  Like you I think it's easier just to ask.

Good luck with the weight loss and the kids!!
