How can I lose the weight from the Depo shot, and how long would it take?

So I started the Depo shot in October 2010.  After a few weeks, I was told I should go in for a check up to the doctor's, but she accidentally gave me another shot of the Depo.  I then went in again for my "second" shot of the Depo three months ago, since she just disregarded her mistake of giving me a shot too early.  After gaining about 20 pounds, and other complications due to the shot, I decided to go off it.  It's really difficult to lose the weight, and I was wondering if there were any suggestions, and how long it takes until the shot leaves your system?  Working out 6 days a week vigorously has not worked at all.  I heard that a zero-carb diet works, but I am already on a low-carb diet because I am a type 1 diabetic.

As a type I diabetic, I think that any significant changes in your diet should ideally be discussed with a nutritionist so that you avoid any low blood sugars in the process.  I just want you to be careful...
