Supplements

I have a very boring medical history which is great!! I have been having pain in my shoulder and saw the Doctor and they told me I have a bone spur. So I am off to PT to see if it will help and then see if it needs to be removed. During the exam the Dr mentioned about shrinking muscle and tendons and other things that happen as you get older. I am healthy all the way around other then a few extra pounds. My question, I have never taken vitamins or supplements. Is it to late to start to help with strengthing my body on the inside? Is there one pill I can take? My diet, I dont drink soda, I havent eaten fast food in 11 years. I love cooking so I am not a picky eater. So what I am eating is good but I dont think its enough. What should I look into to help to age more gracefully? Trust me if you seen my picture I dont look 43..lol. I would like to keep the guessing game going on the outside as well as the inside. The bone spur had me thinking even though I know doesnt have anything to do with getting older. So any help would be great! Thanks, Ramona

I don't think it's ever too late to start making healthier lifestyle choices.
Some suggest taking a multivitamin but I don't know.  I was told that with a healthy, well balanced diet we should be getting all the nutrients we need.

You don't mention exercise.  This is also a major component to good health.  I guess some gentle stretching could be quite beneficial for preventing injuries and helping to maintain a good range of motion.
Maybe the spur was due to exercise?

I haven't been very helpful.  I would suggest continuing with what you have been doing (but maybe making a few small changes).  As long as there is variety in your diet and it is healthy and well-balanced you should be OK.

You might want to check out the doctor's earliest blog to look at ways to help shift those few pounds and for some great tips.

The great thing about supplements is that they aren't generally necessary, unless you are taking them to treat or prevent specific conditions.

The best supplements to consider might be:

1)  A multivitamin
2)  Calcium/Vitamin D
3)  Fish Oil
4)  Probiotic

The truth is, you may not benefit from any of the above.  But it's a place to start from in having a conversation with your doctor!  Take care!
