why can't i lose weight?

Hi I'm a 19 year old girl who stands at 5"5' and weighs 140lbs at last check. I eat between 600 and 900 calories a day in an attempt to lose weight, but it won't come off. I eat vegetarian and exercise 5 hours a day (I'm a dance major, not an obsessive.) Could this have anything to do with my metabolism or thyroid? My mom has thyroid problems.

Are you getting enough protein?  You are way under the amount you should be eating.  Have you ever done a body type test?  Every body is a certain metabolism controlled by a certain gland.  If you can go the library and find the Metabolic Typing studies, do the tests.  It could tell you what you are not eating that you should be or what you should be.  I am a thyroid type and I need my protein.  There was a book out years ago called Dr. Abravanel's body type diet and it gave diets for every body shape.  They often show up in thrift stores or you might try Ebay.  The brownish book doesn't have much exercises in it the Body Type Plan does, however I prefer the brownish book more for information.  Dr. Mercola sometimes has the test on his site free.  Check out Body typing test and see if you can find a thorough one free.  They you may have a better start at what to eat.
