Can I use Provera (10 day pill) for an abortion?

My doctor gave me Provera (the 10 day pill that induces a period) for my irregular periods a while back, but they have been regular for 5 or 6 months now and I never had to take it. I'm having a lot of pregnancy symptoms and I am a few days late for my period. I haven't taken a pregnancy test yet, but I need to know my options before I have to start freaking out. I want to know if the Provera will induce my period and act as an abortion. There is no way I can afford an abortion. I'm in college and my parents CAN'T know about any of this. If Provera won't work, do I have any other options?

Hi there.  I'm sorry you are having this situation in your life.  It's probably a very difficult time emotionally.

My best advice is to NOT use your Provera prescribed for something else.  They can give you appropriate abortion pills to end the pregnancy at home medicinally and that is the route I'd take.  You need doctor's supervision to do this.  There are clinics that can help you and perhaps on your own campus.  Otherwise, I'd borrow the money and get this done the right way.

I know it is hard but you don't want any health issues or an abortion that didn't work once you've tried it--  etc.  So, please see a doctor or a clinic.  They don't try to make this so that woman can't afford it---  remember that.  It's your right so look for your options.  I'm here to help if you need it hon.  good luck sweetie
