Anyone's vaginal problems start after dental work?

Just wanted to put this out there because I am running out of ideas as to what is causing my symptoms.

3 Octobers ago I had what really seemed like a yeast infection - itching, irritation and a lot of odourless discharge. I also felt like my immune system was collapsing - I started to get sore throat, painful tooth and pain from an old infection on my back. No OTC yeast medication did anything but by chance I took Augmentin for something else and it all cleared up in 2 days! I didn't know at that point that Augmentin can't cure yeast so didn't think anything else of it. I now know this was lactobacillosis.

The NEXT October (2012) exact same thing! I went to various doctors and told them about the augmentin but they didn't believe me because antibiotics don't work against yeast and instead gave me lots of medication for BV and yeast. How I wish I'd insisted on augmentin because these yeast/bv suppositories caused my problems to really start. They cleared up the discharge but i was left with a dry, raw inflamed vulva and vagina. It was so excruciating. I went from playing sports and hiking regularly to not wanting to walk even a few yards. I saw private specialists who ran swabs which always came back negative for yeast and any kind of infection. I developed cervical bleeding, had strong shooting pains through my vagina and the feeling of every old infection getting re-infected returned. I told my private doctor about the augmentin and finally got some but it no longer worked. The bv/yeast mess had mutated my problem into something that no longer responded to amoxicillin. I suspected cytolytic vaginosis but was told there was no such thing as an overgrowth of good bacteria. How do these people get licensed?! The only relief I got was during my period when symptoms completely went away. The inflammation eventually went away in late November 2012 after 6 weeks. I thought that was the last I would see of it.

Then last October guess what..it was back and this time it went straight to dry inflamed mode. Augmentin did not help. In fact from all the augmentin I got yeast and/or BV. I was given flagyl which worked for 2 weeks then it all came back with a vengeance. I didn't just have vaginal inflammation but ulcerated sores in my rectum as well. I'm still suffering from that as medications didn't make it completely go away. The only positive thing is that I finally found a doctor in London who knows what cytolytic vaginosis is and did a wet mount exam to confirm that I had it. Right now I'm trying to cure the CV while also battling the rectal sores while also suffering what feels like almost constant yeast infections or BV after every period, although tests have not caused either.

So my point is..I thought it could be caused by either a hormone imbalance or allergy which came up every October. I had my hormones tested and apart from high prolactin they were Normal. The October-November (mould spores?) allergy theory is also looking unlikely because I still have symptoms now in April. Now I'm starting to look at dental causes because all these things started after I had a root canal in 2011 and another one in 2012. I have read theories that root canals leak toxins into the body which can cause autoimmune diseases but no-one seems to be able to prove it.

Has anyone else had health problems that started soon after root canals or other dental work??

I'm replying to this older post and don't know if your issues have been resolved. Please reply if you are still having symptoms. I share many of these issues and believe your dental suspicions are accurate based on my constant searching for answers over the past few years. I also believed hormones are involved and play a part in flare ups and the chronic nature of this.

I have the exact same symptoms! I felt like I was reading my own story when I read your post. For me it Started 5 years ago after a root canal. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, but coincidental that you had that same issue. I have not been able to find a doctor that can help. It's not yeast, not bv, not std, low ph. My money is on lactobacillus overgrowth! Super frustrating! I take a bath most every day and completely rinse everything out. I use plain water as I used to add baking soda and it dried my skin out really badly. This helps the most. I also use diaper rash cream on the external areas to protect it from the irritating discharge. I took augmentin for a sinus infection and didn't have any vaginal irritation for 2 months, then it came back. I feel it could be hormonal, as it is always worse around ovulation and right before my period. High estrogen times! I feel great when I'm on my period, but it only last two days.  I definitely have hormonal issues and have began supplementing progesterone. It seems to make the irritation more tolerable. Still there, but hoping after a few months it might get even better. I tried the preseed lubricant and it helped a few years ago, but no longer works. Best wishes and please share if you find and solutions!

I have had CV now for 2 years. Only the lucky ones get properly diagnosed.
Apart from bicarbonate baths, to neutralize the acid pH, I have just started using, of all things, a lubricant to enhance chances of conceiving, called 'Preseed'…. and it works! After 2 weeks, I am symptom free!

This is the only mention of 'Preseed' in relation to CV:

Bless you Mamacita!

Thank you - yes you are right about antibiotics causing yeast infections. I have not taken them for a while though. The yeast or bv is most likely being caused by the treatment for cytolytic vaginosis which is to make the vagina more alkaline..my doc who is treating me for CV has given me weekly fluconozole pills but to be honest they don't help.  I will see him again in a few weeks

Hi,  Augmentin is a great antibiotic but it is actually known for CAUSING yeast infections.  It kills the 'good bacteria' and then an overgrowth of yeast happens. Common side effect.  No doctor would ever give you something like a traditional antibiotic for yeast (they don't work and as I said, often are the cause of it).

Instead, there is a systemic pill that they can prescribe and you take and it clears it up pretty quickly.  You can ask about that if you need this.

Have you tried probiotics?  They add in 'good bacteria' which combats the bad.  Good for your digestive track and yeast issues.  You can eat yogurt with this or there is a pill you can take (otc in the vitamin section).

No, I doubt your dentist has anything to do with it.  Things like yeast flourish in hot, moist conditions.  maybe you are sweating for some reason at that time of year.  Wear cotton panties and change often especially after exercising.

What does your doctor say about this?
