On June 5th a day after my 27th birthday I had a stroke. Before my stroke I was just a normal relatively healthy 26 year old. I had an active lifestyle that included walked or running 4 to 7 miles daily. Eating healthy and organic when possible. I was rushed to the ER by my boyfriend the morning of my stroke. Prior to my realization that I was having a stroke. I felt tired, couldn't stand up straight. And was leaning on the walls to help steady myself while I walked. I had slurred speech and facial drooping. After two days of being hospitalized my team of 7 doctors came to a conclusion of why a 27 year old had a stroke. They told me it was a combination of 3 things that caused it. High blood pressure, hyperthyroidism and my birth control pills I had been on for 10 years. I'm writing this post in hopes that it will be a reminder for woman to get yearly physicals. Never in a million years would I have imagined having a stroke at 27. After a one week stay at the hospital. I was able to go home. It has now been just over a month since my stroke and I am doing so much better. My leg strength is almost back to normal. But my left arm is still weak. I am slowly gaining strength back.
