Worried about late period

Hi, I am a healthy 29 year old married female.  I went off birth control 9 months ago to give my body a break.  Since then my periods have been pretty regular between 25-30 days.  I have been really stressed this month and my period is late (I'm on Day 29).  I've had some very slight brown spotting on the toilet tissue but nothing more.  I had all the usual PMS symptoms such as irritability, sore breasts, bloating and cramps but no bleeding.  I was so worried last night that I gently put a cotton tip (sorry to be graphic)  inside and there was brown/red blood on the end of it but nothing is coming down.  I am so stressed as I have Irritable Bowel and I know that these symmptoms are similar to ovarian cancer, I'm terrified.  I had a scan done last year and all was fine.  Has anyone else had problems like this? I am almost 100% sure I could not be pregnant as my husband and I use condoms and none have broke.  Please help me I'm very worried, thank you.

Thank you both, you have both been helpful.  I got my hubby to bring home a pregnancy test, it was a first response one so it detects 5 days before your period, anyway it was negative.  I just hope it comes in the next day or two so I can calm down and destress!!

take a test, just to rule out pregnancy..and I think you will get your period soon anyways, you are starting to bleed, but you are stressed so it is not flowing as much...when you relax a little, I'm sure it will start to flow as regular, and sounds like it is right on time, not late, since your cycle is 25-30 days long..Take a nice bath and relax, I'm sure your fine...(I have had this problem before and have resorted to a cotton swab as well, sorry, TMI, and my period has come days later) Take care.

I would take a test just to eliminate pregnancy.

Stress can play havoc with your cycle, so try to relax.
