Yeast and Bacterial Infections

I've been battling Yeast infections for almost a year.  I gave up on OTC creams after months of the infections coming back.  Within the last few months I've tried every natural cure possible.  you name it, yogurt, garlic, vinegar, tea tree oil, expensive products like threelac.  I recently ordered candisil, but it doesnt seem to be helping either.  In January of this year, I noticed an odor to the discharge.  I went to the doctor and was dianosed with BV and prescribed Flagyl (yuck, I hate antobiotics).  It went away for a few months, but I recently noticed the symptoms return.  I have an appointment on Monday with my doctor again.  However, I fear that they are just going to prescribe more antibiotics, which i don't want to take.  It just seems the more I try to do to remedy the problem(s) the worse it gets.  :(  Help!

hi...
i myself after getting my first yeast infection YEAH!!!! a few months ago, got that nasty white discharge. i went to see my doctor about it because i did not have the other symptoms this time (the itchy or red burning vagina). so i was not sure if it was a yeast infention returning AGAIN or my normal discharge.
the doctor told me that women who have plenty of yeast infection mostly one after the other can have a change in secretion. it could be thick and white,or clear and sticky
if it does not smell like fish dont worry!!

Can you tell me the name of the pill you are talking about?  Do you need a prescription?

Are you SURE what you're describing is a yeast infection (the white discharge, I mean)? It may just be your normal discharge.

I was not completely sure because the yeast problem was present way before the BV.  I have taken many antibiotic courses in my life and feel like it has given me chronic yeast overgrowth.  Yeast infection meds help, but the infection always comes back shortly after.

This sounds just like me, I've tried anything and everything this past year wasting hundreds and hundreds of dollars.  I will definitely ask for the Cleocin when I see my doctor.  However, my biggest worry is that even if I can get rid of the BV completely, is that I will still have the original problem with the yeast infections.  It does not come and go, the discharge is always there even if I don't have any irritation or itching.

All in all, I want to deep down problem.  I'm so tired of masking syptoms and thinking I am better only to have the same thing happen over and over again.  It's such a vicious cycle!

Well, first you need to focus on getting the BV cleared up, and I think the Cleocin will work for you.  Get some of the anti-fungal cream too to use occasionally as needed.  As far as the discharge, if it's not itchy or bothersome, just present, it may be normal for you depending upon the time of month you're in, hormonally speaking.  Mine is usually thick/white/pasty but not bothersome for about a week after my cycle, which I can definitely live with and I think that is probably normal for a lot of women.

Good luck to you hun!

I agree that I need to get the BV taken care of before anything else.  The yeast discharge is not perpetually itching, but it does at times.  It is very bothersome because of it's frequency and thickness.  (without being graphic) it is obviously present after sex.  It is thick/white/pasty all of the time....during my period is the only relief that I have!  Ugh

This white discharge was also a noticeable change from how it had been up until the problem began.  I had never had a yeast infection or any color to my discharge up until this point.  I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for the Cleocin!  I do thank you for your help!

I have had yeast problems for about 2 years now and bv occasionally.  I noticed that it started a few months after I got on birth control.  My doctor didn't think it had anything to do with it but anyway I did my own research and found out that it can change your vaginal ph.  Well I have been off birth control for 3 months and haven't got any infections since so hopefully it will stay that way.  Oh and I used to take Diflucan for yeast and after awhile it didn't feel like it was getting rid of it so my doctor prescribed boric acid capsules and they work A LOT better.  You just insert them vaginally at night and they make your vagina more acidic.  Yeast can't thrive in acidic environments.

Yes, the yeast and the BV are related.  The antibiotics used to clear up the BV will almost certainly give you a yeast infection...errrr.  Some doctors don't believe that BV is trasmitted from partner to partner, some do (mine does).

Honey, I tried the Candida diet, spent a fortune in probiotics and various "yeast be gone" supplements, tea tree oil douches, you name it.  For a year and a half!!!!!  I used to go to bed crying at night because the itching was so bad and nothing worked.  I did research night and day until FINALLY I saw where the Cleocin was supposed to be very effective for BV and I actually asked him for it (don't give me any more flagyl!!!).  After the second round of treatment, gone.  Really, really gone.  Not even a yeast infection.  YEAHHHH!!!  But, if you do get a yeast infection after it, you could take the pill (diflucan) or use a vaginal yeast medicine (for 7 days - not the 1 day or 3 day kind).  Also, the other cream (the anti-fungal cream) I just keep on hand and if I feel any itching at all, I just use a little for a day or two and usually it goes away.  Let me know how it works out for you.

I'm almost positive that it is not my normal discharge.  Everything had been normal until about a year ago when I noticed that after my boyfriend and I had sex that there was obvious thick white discharge at the base of his penis (ew, I know)  It was definitely not normal for this to happen.  First I used an OTC yeast infection cream and it went away only to return shortly after.  I have not been able to get it under control since and believe me, I've tried everything under the sun!  I have not tried the Boric acid however, and may give that a try.  I've just been trying to deal with it, but it has made me so self conscious that it's obviously affecting my personal and sex life.  :(

Definitely don't keep treating what you think is a yeast infection. Instead, next time you notice the discharge, make an appt to see your doctor that day and have him/her culture it. It really may just be your natural discharge (it sounds pretty normal to me). You don't want to keep using meds for yeast infections if you don't actually have one, because that just upsets the natural balance of bacteria in your vagina. That may even be what's triggering your recurrent BV...

I definitely see your point.  I have just come to the conclusion that it couldn't be anything else from all of the reading I have done.  I have not used any OTC or prescription yeast treatments since last year.  I have been trying probiotics and other natural remedies.  I am going to the doctor Monday to know for sure.

JUST READ YOUR POST.  THE WAY I CLEARED UP BOTH BV AND YEAST PROBLEMS WAS HAVING DOCTOR PRESCRIBE BOTH ME THE VAGINAL CREAM AND HUSBAND ANTIBIOTICS AND NOT HAVING SEX THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE ON THEM.  FOR THE YEAST I TOOK A PILL WHICH YOU GET AT THE PHARMACY.  YOU CHEW A FEW A DAY AND KEEP THEM IN THE REFRIGERATOR.  YOU CAN USE OVER THE COUNTER CREAMS FOR THE ITCHING AND IRRITATION.

Do you think the yeast problems and the BV are related?  The yeast discharge began almost a year ago and the BV in the last few months.  Am I correct that the cleocin was prescribed for the BV?  He also did not suggest a script for my partner the first time I took Flagyl.

It's getting to the point where these problems are all I can think about!  I just want to find something that will get rid of the yeast discharge and the Odor!  I've also been on the candida diet as well.  I feel like I'm running out of options!

I feel your pain!  I too went thru a year and a half of battling that stuff after an endometrial ablation.  The flagyl did not work for me (I took it twice).  What eventually worked for me was a supository (Cleocin 100 mg) inserted vaginally 1 x per day for 3 days.  I had to get it refilled and repeat the process, but it finally got rid of it.  My doctor explained that BV is very difficult to get rid of sometimes and you may have to try different things.  Flagyl is the common one and they usually give you a script for you partner.  He also gave me a tube of anti-fungal cream to use for itching and prevention.  It was called Clotrimazole-Betamethasome (I know, whew).  Maybe you could ask your doctor for that.

I wouldn't waste your money on all the "Yeast Be Gone" ****.  I did and none of it worked!!

Good Luck!
