I am a nurse and a mother of three and also having 5 miscarriages. I agree that you need to see your ob/gyn. Being that this may be a miscarriage, you are at risk of infections and possibly developing PID (Pelvic Inflamatory Disease). Some pregnancies maintain just fine after a breakthrough bleeding episode. But, sometimes even if the pregnancy has ended there may be left over tissue that wasn't expelled naturally. This requires a D&C (dilation & curettage). Only a Sonogram/ultrasound. I personally just had to have a D&C due to a pregnancy loss. Sometimes it happens this way. But trust me on this one, from occupational and personal experience, this is not something you want to ignore. Good luck and if I can be of any more service to you please let me know.

There are times it will be bleeding during pregnancy. It could due to the implantation of pregnancy. Some women will encounter bleeding during pregnancy, which is common. If it is heavy bleeding, it could be miscarriage. If it bleed too heavy, the best way is to consult a gynae to find it out.

If you got a period, then no. A period flushes out your uterus meaning anything in there, including an embryo. Watch your period and make sure its normal and everything. The other thing it might be is a miscarriage which often times feels/looks like a period though might be shorter. Best thing to do is talk to the doctor especially if it could have been a miscarriage.
