Low hcg?

I suspect I am pregnant, but hpt(s) give neg result. About 4 and half yrs ago I suspected I was pregnant and took hpt(s) about every week to two weeks-all with neg result for over 2 months. I went to doctor  for blood preg test and the result was also neg. Two weeks after blood test I took another hpt and resulted in positive. My first obgyn appointment was about one week after positive result and ultrasound showed I was over 3 months pregnant. My son will be 5 soon. How typical is this or am I an unexplainable case. I do really feel as though I am pregnant now as well. Would really like to know why it is so hard for me to get accurate results. I would like to know if I am pregnant before I am through the first trimester again.

Ive had light spotting only the last 2 periods which only lasted 2 days. I took a hpt after a couple days of being late both times and they were neg. I told the doctor about what was going on with my period but he didnt care. He said we will see what happens.
Ive heard of your case happening before, I dont know why it would though. Sorry.

I had already missed 3 periods. I do not know if it was qualative or quantative, but it gave negative result. Two weeks after having blood test show a negative, I was in obgyn looking at him on ultrasound and doc said i was 13 to 14 weeks at that time.
