10yr old hitting him self

Hi all,
I have a bit of a problem, my girlfriend's son that is 10yr old and has ADD and ADHD, he is extremely emotional, ie: you can tell him to go to bed when he does not want to and he will start screaming at the top of him lungs crying, just about everything you tell him to do he will start crying or screaming about it.  Also if he gets in trouble for something he will start hitting him self in the head calling him self stupid.  Both of us tell him he is not stupid just that he needs to think about what he does and that he is a very smart boy.

Well this past weekend one of his jobs is to do is clean out the cat boxes which we have had problems with him not doing it, I told him that if he does not do it properly I would take is gameboy away, so I did and the next day he went to the school and told the teachers that I punched him and pushed his head into the wall.  I did no such thing, we do use spankings at our house, but at this point I dont know what to do, this boy is making it really hard to live in the house and I dont want to ruin my life because a 10 yr old boy is making things up. I dont want to go to jail because he hits him self and leaves marks on him and then he tells the school that it is me doing it to him.

WHAT SHOULD I DO???

He is on medication for his ADD and ADHD all ready to keep him calm.

being a parent is difficult perhaps use time -outs to isolate him into doing what you want him to do :)

I would probably advise seeking professional advice.  Not sure who that would be.  A pediatric psychiatrist, a psychotherapist.  I'm not sure.

There is a mental health expert forum if you want to ask the question there.  The doctor will be better able to direct you.
Also, there is a parenting expert forum.  I'm not sure if that site is current though.  It could be another option.

Failing everything else.  Talk to his doctor or your doctor.

Good luck.
