Fingernails

Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow. Hoping this is at least a good sign of good things to come :)

I have been been dealing with fatigue for years, problem is it could be many things :( My hubby keeps insisting I'm lacking other vitamins and says he wants me tested. He thinks there is more going on then just the Vit D. And after all he is the one who actually sees me going through this mess day after day. As for my Dr. he's pretty open minded with everything. He asks me what medications work and if they work he writes a script. If I mention having something done he's willing to do it. I guess at this point checking can't hurt is how he sees things lol Oddest thing to me with all of this that is going on. It's almost only my left side being effected. The muscle spasms, tingling, pain etc. Rarely does my right side feel anything.

Also, did notice my nails are starting to peel again last night :( But, they still seem to be stronger then they had been. Maybe just one of them things...

Some other symptoms of Vit. B12 def. are:
Fatigue
Pale
tingling in the extremities (hands/feet)
sore mouth/tongue
bleeding gums
nausea
and more

Of course you don't have to have all of these symptoms to have B12 def.
Mine were extreme fatigue (I didn't notice how bad mine got, until people started commenting that I didn't smile anymore) and the tingling of the extremities.  It was after I started treatment that I noticed an improvement to my nails. (never found that listed as a symptom, but it obviously was.)

Hopefully your doctors will be up to screening you.  You don't have to have hemoglobin or hematocrit anemia to have B12 def.  Although both are considered anemias.

I'm thinking now I should have the B12 checked.  I've had this issue with my nails, too, and it's gotten more intense lately, so I should definitely have both vitamin levels rechecked.

I don't think my Dr has checked me for other vitamin def. which was kinda what I was wondering myself with a few vitamins. I go back the 26th of Oct. and I'm thinking of asking him to check other Vitamins. If my D is as low as it is, I'm sure I have others low too :( In my opinion it's almost useless to fix one problem without fixing others? But, wasn't sure if D would cause a fingernail problem or not.

I haven't from my VDD.  However, I was diagnosed before the VDD with B12 def and had that problem with my nails.  Since I have been given B12 shots and been taking B12 sublingual my nails have been doing much better.  Have you been check for B12 def?
