My Story --- Vit D level was 9.0

Hi,

I had thyroid surgery in '07 ..............and since then all has gone askew.  Last year I started thinking my Synthroid for my thyroid was really off .. felt down, joints hurt, tired and went to the Dr finally after 6 mos of denial.  Dr did Vit D test and it revealed I was at 9 !!!!!!

So I went on 100,000 iu's for 8 weeks and it finally went up to level of 32....down to 50,000 iu's and doing well now.  They took me off all for a test and then redid the labs and it dropped to 22 so proved I needed it.

They did all comprehensive labs 2X and all is normal.

They think since I use SPF since I had a melanoma it's causing this in the summer not to capture the stores of it from the sun!

So, that's my story and feeling fine on the 50,0000 iu's

C~

Hi,
Vitamin D Absorption is very much affected by which type of Vitamin D that you are taking.
Vitamin D comes in two different formulations:
Vitamin D2, also called ( ergocalciferol ),and Vitamin D3,also called (cholecalciferol).
Vitamin D2 was the first synthetic form of Vitamin D and is the form of vitamin d in all Vegan Vitamin D. It was used, and still is in many cases, to fortify foods, make some Vitamin D supplements and is the basis for ALL Prescription Vitamin D.
D2 (ergocalciferol) has lower bioactivity, poorer stability, and shorter duration of action, resulting in approximately 33% lower potency compared with vitamin D3.
Vitamin D2 made from yeast, vitamin D3 made from lanolin.

Hope that this helped.

Prescription Vitamin D has a shorter half-life than Vitamin D3 and so is already wearing off at the end of the 8 weeks, where vitamin d3 lasts longer and would still be sticking around- among the many reasons to be taking Vitamin D3 instead of Prescription.

Hope that this helped.
