Could this be pscychosomatic?

To make a long story short I was diagnosed with Gerd/Gastritis in the ER a few months ago. After spending the past few months changing my diet and taking many natural supplements for healing, I was feeling great with no more gastritis pain and was able to eat normally again after barely being able to eat at all for six weeks.
I finally got in to see a GI doc. I went in to tell him how great I feel and how the supplements had helped me and that I no longer needed medication. I thought he would be like fine, see me again in 6 months or something like that. The first thing he did was tell me that losing 23 pounds in 3 months was very concerning. I explained to him that I lost the weight from not eating, and eating pretty low fat low calorie foods when I did eat. The past few weeks I have been eating normally again and have not lost any more weight.  Then he pressed HARD on my stomach and when he pressed under the breastbone I said ouch and he asked if I had pain there and I said, when you pressed yes, I did. So due to the fact that I have EXPLAINED weight loss and pain when he pressed on the area under my breast bone, he is concerned about stomach cancer. I went on line and read the symptoms of stomach cancer and one of the symptoms is "loss of appetite". This happened the day before yesterday and since then I have "loss of appetite". I don't feel hungry and even though food looks good to me, I don't have the feeling of needing to eat. I did not have this symptom until my doctor told me about his concerns and I read about the symptoms online. Could this be psychosomatic? Can your body actually stop feeling hungry if your mind has some subconscious belief that there might be a disease and starts mimicking the disease symptoms? Thank you.

Hey Chttdana.
I'm so happy for you and the weight gain, I'll take it as sign of improved
health and I hope you continue to improve.

Do you think your anxiety disorder may be linked (in part at least) with
G/I and digestive issues? This could go either way, you know.
The old chicken and egg question.

If interested checkout GAPS, the Gut And Psychology Syndrome,
(unless you already know about this).

Best wishes!

Thank you for your response. I did get tested and I do not have stomach cancer, thank God. I was surprised at the doctor's aggressive behavior too, so I found another GI doc to do the tests. After being tested and told there is nothing seriously wrong with me, my appetite came back with a vengeance, too. It must have been psychosomatic. Doctors should really think before they speak to patients. Especially when they know the patient has an anxiety disorder! Thanks again.

Hi Chattdana.

While the symptoms are consistent with stomach cancer, it seems
rather atypical to experience such extreme symptoms within a short time.
I guess the psychosomatic effect you speak of is possible, however, your
gastro's suspicion should be ruled out completely!

I'm actually surprised he announced his suspicion, without first having you get an endoscopy, as a preliminary screening, before a biopsy would be ordered (when the findings from the endoscopy warrant a biopsy).

Your symptoms could also be typical of other conditions, or again, perhaps he DID press too hard and your weight loss was due to your diet.

Best wishes.
