Diagnosed with PTSD at 18

My father died very traumatically at 17 and I watched him die. The first year did not affect me as much as the second year. When I went to college it really hit me. I started losing my memory and my concentration decreased. I was an A student and my grades started to slip. Due to my inability to remember my counselor has suggested I take medicine if I am seriously considering regaining concentration. I am only 19 and do not like the idea of taking an SSRI. I am curious about other people's experiences with PTSD and memory and if medicine helped. It's just occurring at a difficult time while I'm college.

I am not a fan of medicine personally. It helps some people tremendously, but not me. I found a combination of talk therapy, light therapy, and yoga to be helpful.
