Dear cathw, The color of the areola can change. It is less concerning that the color change has occurred on both breasts. It is likely that this is not a problem, particularly if you are not experiencing any other problems with your breasts, however, as it is a change - mentioning it to your physician who can ask questions and assess is not a bad idea.
Coloration of the areola, in the absense of other changes such as a rash, or underlying lumps, and when symmetrical is not something very worrisome. On the other hand, any change needs some level of attention: if it persists, it would be a good idea to let your doctor know. It sounds innocent, however. Unless there's also discoloration of lips, fingernail beds, etc.
Thank you Doctor! I appreciate your time and response to my concerns. Regards, cathw
Hi. Last month about 90% of both of my nipples turned white. It happened pretty much overnight. It has not gone away. I got off of depoprovera about 3 months ago and that is the only drug I was ever on. Also about 2 weeks before they changed colors I had a very bad flu, I still have a lingering cough and mucus in my throat. I doubt its related but I wanted to give you all the information. My nipples do not hurt or have any discharge. Im going to the doctor soon but really want a heads up. Why have my nipples turned white? :) Thank you!
