A question: How to know

Hi,
Few days ago, there was a post on tis frum and information there on google also that 3 health care workers serconverted by 12 months and lots of information over the internet also, that Hepatitis C and HIV co-ifection can take longe till 12 months to seroconvert. I have a question that how a person will know that he or she is not co-infected and may take longer. A person should get tested for both Hep. C and HIV to rule out possibility of longer time?? But ofourse these are documented cases. Plz comment.

That is all the occupational exposures. HIV is not an easy virus to contract.

What I mean is, is every exposure to blood listed as an occupational exposure or just the ones from people who are HIV+ when determining the 900,000 number?

Just curious.

HIV is a bloodborne disease. That is the only way you contract it.

that is good information to know! 150 people out of 900,000? Damn! That is low has hell with a very scary exposure! I hope others read into that and understand the chances of infection!

By testing. There is no information that people seroconvert by 12 months. It is the healthcare insurance company and OSHA's guidelines for testing up to 1 years for anyone that has an occupational exposure. There have been over 900 thousand occupational exposures since the beginning of HIV. Less than 150 people have been infected.
