I have tumping in my left ear .Blood pressure was up a little when it was ck but not much. Don't make sence to me always ran low blood pressure. I eat healthy.All the good oils, fruit and veges.Doc. gave me magnezem was better but is back now the thumping that is.Off and on.Kind of scray sence I have sleep apney.Could the tumping come from to high potassiam

My ear thumping  has been on and off for around 5 years now. I don't think BP is the cause. My thumping has three beats. The 4/4th (death march) beat. The Vespa (scooter), and the Buddy Rich (jazz drummer). Each time  it lasts longer than the last with a few months in between.

This is an interesting thread.  

I have a "thumping" in my right ear as well that is almost constant and has been for 3+ years.  It follows my pulse exactly.  I have never been able to get an answer as to what it might be.

I have now had an MRI which showed several scattered punctate foci in the subcortical white matter of my brain.  I have no idea if this is relevant, but am scheduled to see a neuro next Friday and intend to bring up the ear issue.  

If anyone has any information on the ear "thumping", please let me know so I can be educated heading into my appointment.

muscle spasms in the ear, related to any of several things, weather change, inner ear being dried out from meds (allergy meds, etc).  Ear too wet,  ear canal damage causing pain to radiate into ear and causing muscle to spasm.  Lots of things can bring it on.  It can last a while or a little bit.  

For me, gently pushing the flap of the ear against the canal, causing very light pressure against the canal passage, stops the tapping/thumping.  Also putting in ear plugs in a fashion that VERY slightly pressurizes the canal helps for me.  Check with your doctor first before trying anything that may damage your ear.

I have had a thumping in my left ear now off and on about 5 times in the past 3 weeks.  The first time it lasted only about 30 minutes but is going on longer with each episode I have, the last one being many hours.  I have been to both my primary and ER, but they do not seem to know what the cause could be as they say my ear looks good inside.  I did notice the last time I was at the ER my blood pressure was elevated a bit, but the thumping I have is not in tune with my pulse.  Any ideas of who I need to see for this, and what the cause could be?

Hello.

Is the thumping in the ear related to your pulse beat? It most likely is a vascular problem in or around the inner ea area. The vascular pulse is transmitted to the inner ear apparatus. Check if you get the thumping only when you have a high blood pressure.

An ENT surgeon's opinion and a few investigations will be needed.
