No, I personally have never seen a well documented case of HIV resulting from oral sex.
As for why peole get HIV, it is a numbers game. Simplistically, millions of people have sex and some of them are unlucky. EWH
Dr, I know your busy and sorry to bother you. I have a Question. If the risk is 1 in 10000 for oral and 1 in 1000 for vaginal. Have you ever had a patent that got hiv from oral? Also If the risks are so low how are so many people getting hiv?
Thank you for your time. I really appreciate your help.
Oral sex is very close to no risk for getting HIV. The risk we quote on this site is that your chance of getting HIV is less than 1 in 10,000 exposures, IF your partner is infected. The fact is that the chances are that none of your partners was HIV infected either.
Some argue that oral sex is even lower risk than I suggest, stating there is no risk. We are not comfortable with going that far but do classsify it as a very low risk exposure. Your HIV test will be negative.
As for the pain in your stomach, nausea and chills, they are not due to HIV. Symptoms are a terrible way to judge risk for HIV. On the other hand, in your line of work you are regularly exposed to things that could make you sick with just the symptoms you have mentioned. If the symptoms persist, you need to work through this with your doctor to sort it out. EWH
