Hello!!  You may just be the one with the answer for me!!!!  I see that  you posted that there are 5 different diseases that could cause a false positive.. I want to know more about the EBV.. I'm assuming you are talking Epstien Barr Virus..  (Mono?  Correct??)  Well....  Hmmm.. This is weird.. I've never had Mono a day in my life that I'm aware of, but I found out 1 1/2 yrs ago that my Mono test at work was positive.. I am a nurse, work in the lab for Urgent Care and had to learn how to do the tests.. So, they tested me..  I was thinking no way.. I could not have a positive Mono.. I was not sick.. And, had never been.. I've had 2 more since then, they are both positive also.. I'm wondering if my body does something weird with antibodies?  I wonder if I'm super sensitive if exposed to any type of virus or bacteria?   I wonder if the positive EBV has anything to do with a positive HSV2?

to mamas 1973:
this should be your last test which was over the 6 month mark! if it comes back negative ur fine! All the money you paid on these test you could have had a wetern blot done.

to curious1231980:

There is no reason for any more testing for you based on the 2 times you had sex with the person who you knew had herpes.  It's time to move on past the idea that you might've contracted herpes from that person.

Okay, thank you for your comment. I am going to the Doctor today and I am going to ask if I can have one of those two done. I know she is probably going to look at me like I am crazy...but I want to make sure. It has been 11 months since that exposure, no symptoms, all blood tests negative...but still..I want to make sure.... I honestly don't think I have it anymore because of the fact that all tests have been negative and no symptoms...like you said, it usually takes 3/4 months...for some others 6 months...but mine has been almost a year and nothing...what do you think?

in order to get almost 98% "last partner accuracy" (nothing is 100% accurate) when testing (other than actual testing accuracy issues) get tested at leat 3/4 months later some poeople even say 6 month until your last possible "sexual encounter lol" it takes tha long for some peoples immune system to finish the pleatu of hsv 2 antibodies(rarely 6 months most people by month 3/4). most people dont have a probblems/isssues testing with the focus herpes select test but a lot do (like me so i dont refer it tha much lol then they turn out to be negative) but i would use a conformation test like the bio kit rapid assay or have the western blot done.

Hello,

I have a question. I guess my situation is a little similar. I was exposed to Herpes back in December 2007. We did it two times unprotected. Of course, he told me afterwards and we stopped. I did a couple of blood tests because I never had any symptoms. The first one was right after he told me....it was negative for HSV2/Positive for HSv1. Second one was 3 months after, and it was negative for HSV2 and positive for HSV1. Third one was six months after (June) and it was negative for HSV 2. Last test was in Octobe 30, 2008 and it was once again negative for HSV2...no symptoms at all for Herpes. Has a yeast infection and Vaginitis but that's about it. Should I keep testing for HSV2? Doctors have told me plenty of times that I didn't get it from that encounter and that I had plenty of time for antibodies to show in my body. Is that true? Anyone can give some advice?

You don't have hsv2. There's no reason for treatment.

i probally would have not wasted your money to have the same test done especially the one tha already tha gave you the probally false positive in the first place! i would use a diffrent conformtation test sometimes it can come back positive up to 3 times i found in one case but he was negative and used the western blot to confirm.trust me thas wha i did now i have 2 low positives under 2.4 and still no symptoms! The swab is almost 98% accurate (no test is 100% accurate) but sometimes depending on who handeled/collected the swab it could be a false negative/positive (human error-even lab error) tha is why conformation testing is always needed! They probally jus thought you were asking about accuracy instead of testing technique questions-like which other test other than one already used? i dunno lol igm is only valid early in infection if truly positive! There are at least 5 different diseases/vitamin defficencies that can meake low positives!(but doctors dont tell you about them so it could be an underlying health problem dugh not u again some doctors some jus irritate me lmfao) like deer tick lymes disease,ebv,hsv1-and vaccine,hsv2-some people have antibodies not std related but by race-even the vaccine etc...all this is strang and i dont know y doctors dont explain fully what tests are being done! i dunno hope tha helps have any more questions im on here everyday jus about "researching lol"-i think i know just bout everything but my status lmfao most doctors tell me by know because i dont have symptoms and my past partners results they think its a false positive but i jus want evidence so i have ot go all the way to new york and im from michigan because no one in michigan does conformation testing which is SMART-NOT lmfao

Thanks for your response Maya. I'm awaiting the test results of newly drawn blood that will take a week to process. Also, they took a swab of that red bump that I discovered too just to be sure...

I was curious what grace or jess thought about my posting!?

I'm looking for some comfort. All the sites I've stumbled upon have said the IgM is not valid. I had chicken pox when I was little...could that make the IgM come up as "positive?"

igm is never used to make a complete testing diagnosis urgh!(not you but idiot doctors lol) igm just shows recent infection and it dissapers at the begining of your immune system building antibodies (if tha makes sense it dissapers after building pleatu antibodies) which can also show a false positive as well and as igg (-what im going through w no symptoms going on month number 4 i nvever had an std in my life but i found at leats 20 cases like mine/ours on here that turn out to be negative) with results under 3.5 there needs to be more conformation testing to prove out false positives especially if oyu had the focus test done.(try bio kit rapid assay or western blot) your igm is very low i would retest using another test! i jus dont understand im pre med (not a md yet) but i know more info than most doctors do that are pefrorming the testing and diagnosing of people tha is crazy its lke wha did i pay you for lmfao! If you have any other questions let me know hope tha helps i even found another case like yours i was telling her that this is happening to often and doctors are under diagnosing people and using in accurate testing in a short time frame to catch certain aspects/symptoms/testing of the disease if tha makes sense heres tha web adresse to ake a look and ask each other questions so i hope tha helps

went to gyn and had a check up today. i took my HSV results in from March 2008 (6 months after my last exposure) for him to read. He said my primary doctor read the restults from to me. My primary doctor read the results to me over the phone and said I do not have herpes. Here are my numbers:

Herpeselect HSV-1 IGG = .3
Herpeselect HSV-2 IGG = .3
Herpes IGM Screen = Detected 1.16

My gyn said I did test positive for herpes. I just don't understand. How can the IGG be negative and the IGM be positive when I had NO SEX, NO KISSING, NO ORAL, NO NOTHING for over 6 months!! If I tested negative for HSV 1&2 via IGG doesn't that mean I don't have anything?

Which doctor is right? My gyn or my primary doctor?? My gyn put me on a Valtrax regimen and acyclivir (sp?) just to be safe. I'm so distraught.
