oral sex and safety of my girlfriend

Dear doctor,

Here's my story, last month I went to a Belgian private club and had oral sex with a prostitute. It might have lasted for ten minutes. She gave me oral sex for about 10 minutes. I might have rubbed her just above her vagina with my finger it felt a little wet but I was to scared to do anything else. She might have touched the area of her vagina to with her fingers but just very briefly and definetly not inside her. I didn't came into her mouth, she finished me of by masturbating me. After that I immidiately washed my finger and I took a shower. This scares me. I have had  pain in my muscles and did feel a little flu-like. I seem to have a cold and my muscles still hurt on places like under my armpits. I have  taken a bloodtest after 7-days and it was negative for  STD and HIV. I have a red rash now wich is a fungal infection my doctor sais and I'm busy to take care of that with medication. I also have some apthous ulcers in my mouth but just one at a time not more. I asked my doctors If I could have regular sex with my girlfriend without the use of any protection. They said yes. I'm wondering if you have the same feeling about it? I don't know if it's important but I have had only one sexual partner wich whom I had intercourse with and that's my girlfriend and I only did the above thing once. But I'm very scared now. I also wonder if i should take a test in two weeks (the six week mark) and then an other one at the three months mark or just waith untill the three month mark. I really hope you can evaluate my risk or say it's a no risk situation in you're opinion.  You're also the last person I will ask advice to, after I've read it I'll just past the time until I can do a conclusive test and keep the persons who already helped me here on the board updated, I do want to believe those persons but I'm still a little bit concerned. I think the more detailed the story the better you can help me.

Thank you very much.

I agree with your doctors.  Oral sex is safe sex -- it rarely transmits HIV.  And fingering is no risk whatsoever.  Also, it is unlikely the sex worker had HIV.  While of course I cannot guarantee someone isn't infected, I see no reason get HIV tested at all after this event or to stop having sex with your girlfriend.  You can scan the forum for hundreds of other, more detailed discussions about exactly the same questions.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD

Thanks for the thanks about the forum.

Certainly anxiety could be responsible for the symptoms you decribe, and whenever a person suspects his or her own symptoms have a psychological origin, usually s/he is correct.  They don't hint at HIV.

Thank you very much for your opinion and advice doctor. I'll try to let it rest now. I will take a test in two months though at the three months mark. My doctors said I should do the test just to put my own mind at rest. So I can put this all behind me. And start my life again. Do you think the symptoms I have are just based on anxiousnes or something else than HIV? (You probably do) I'd like to say one more thing and that is that this board realy brings a lot of relief to people and I'm glad such a thing exists. It's a very good and comforting board and there are a lot of great, understanding and helpfull members on this board.
