thank you for that info.I do have "unclassified Mitochondrial disease"and other diseases which I figure all tie together.I have a gut feeling that MAYBE having the Thyroidoctomy started ALL ths **** I'm dealing with.
there's lots to talk about THAT'S for sure!!!
If you had Hurthle's cells in your thyroid, this is a mitchondrial cellular change, and could account for your other diseases. You would really have to find out what your TT was for precisely.
Having a TT is unlikely to allow to have a goitre regrow, but it is not to say it can't happen. There is no way that all the thyroid tissue can ever be removed, unless of course you take out the parathyroid glands as well. (These sit on the thyroid gland and to take them out would mean lifelong calcium supplement) But it is unlikely. Only by having radiation therapy can you be certain all the thyroid cells are destroyed. In a normal TT this is not done, unless there is a precise diagnoses of cancer to start with.
It is possible you may have had Hashimoto's disease, as to the reason behind taking out the thyorid. Hashimoto's is an auto-immune disease and often other auto-immune diseases can occur with this. Not always, but it can happen.
To answer you question directly, No having a TT will not result in getting other illnesses, but having a dodgy thyroid before you had it out could well be leading to other problems.
I had a lump in my throat but the dr. did'nt tell me if it was a goiter or not but it was'nt cancerous thank god! Does anyone know if the goiter can grow back over time?
I don't know if they are related or not. What was your TT for?
