What is this?

I recently had something removed from my ear and would like some information on what it is and how to avoid a reoccurance.  It is called syringocystadenoma papilliferum.

Laura:

Not much to tell.  It's a benign growth, usually on the head and neck.  Once you remove it, it's gone.  No prevention needed.  I assume your dermatologist or surgeon will see you in at least occasional followup.  "Syringocystadenoma papilliferum" is certainly an impressive name though, isn't it?  I wish that you should have only unimportant medical conditions with impressive names.

Best.
