Dear Doc,
I was diagnosed with a positive gonorrhea last May 30, 2005 and went back to the ER again on June 5th..and the test came out negative before they gave me a antibioctic shot on my buttocks and doxycycline pills for 7 days. The thing i don't understand is that my husband's test came out negative. And he too was wondering why mine came out positive. He swore to me that he has no other sexual activites outside our marriage and so do i. After being diagnosed with gonorrhea on may 30th....they said that i had a yeast infection, UTI and bacterial vaginosis at the same time....they gave me TEQUIN, FLAGYL & MICONAZOLE 7 before knowing that i had gonorrhea. Then on June 5th, i came back to them complaining that i was still itchy..(at that time i still didn't know i had gonorrhea)...they did another pelvic exam on me....and the test came out negative. So since may 30th i had gonorrhea and on june 5th it's negative which was before treatment with the doxycycline. It confuses me so much that i over analyse these things in my head...and how did i ever get the gonorrhea. I know that my husband and i never had a problem in our sex life. We're both clean people and never thought that this would ever happen to us. My doc asked me if i had any other ex bf's before my husand and i said yes which was like 6 yrs ago. Do u think that i might've gotten it from him?? Cuz as of right now...my husband and i have a beautiful healthy baby boy together...and i don't see any problems with our son's eyes due to gonorrhea infection. This just makes me puzzled. One more thing, i gave oral sex on my husband before him being tested for gonorrhea(since his test came out negative)...now my throat is bothering me...it's not that bad..but i can feel that there's something there. Whenever i would swallow...it's kinda difficult. And i can sense or tastes like blood...but whenever i spit..there's no sign of blood whatsoever. Can u please give me an advice or should i just move on with it??

I have read the post on STD and have a quick question. I thought I may have had an STD from a low risk oral (insertive). I went to my doctor (Internal Medicine) and he did a blood work up and urine at four weeks and 8 weeks. His comment was everythign looked great and the urine was clean enough to drink. Should I have any concern as he is probably not an STD specialist?
You clearly have urethritis, i.e. inflammation of the urine passage. It is sexually acquired. The three main causes are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) due to neither of those. Given the fairly prominent pain and your description of "yellow" discharge, you are right to be concerned about gonorrhea--but it could be chlamydia or NGU. You need to be seen immediately (today if possible) by a provider who knows about STDs; and your partner needs to be rechecked, also today. I suggest you go together to your local health department's STD clinic.
Good luck-- HHH, MD
