If hitting the gym doesn't quite cut it for you as a regular fitness routine, consider signing up for a charity walk. Training with a goal in mind will help keep you focused and motivated, especially if you're doing it for a cause that’s important to you.
The feel-good effect is twofold: You get the endorphin boost from exercising, and research shows that those who volunteer live longer, have a better handle on the tasks of everyday life, and are less afflicted by depression and heart disease. Find a partner to sign up with so you have someone to give you a push on days when you're feeling lazy! It will all be worth it when you cross the finish line.
Ready to get started? Research a charity walk or cause of choice, register, and then create a plan. Walking your first charity walk can be intimidating, but with the right frame of mind, you can move from couch to 5K, 10K or even 13.1 miles with ease. Here are some tips to help you train.
