My Sister is living in Venice Florida and is being mentally, verbally, and physically abused.  She said that she has looked for shelters in the area but they are all full - SOMEONE PLEASE HELP - she phone me last night and told me that he burned her hair almost to the skull, he pokes at her leaving bruises and is always calling her names but refuses to let her leave.  She told me she WILL NOT come home, here to me, but she will go into a battered shelter because it is the only place she will feel safe.
PLEASE HELP, I am afraid I will never see my dear, sweet Sister again.
Thank you -

The hard part is just beginning; which is staying away from him. She cannot change him. He has to also want change. I hope he is pondering on his life while being in jail. Praying for you all.

Hi Yesidid, I wanted to give you a heads up about my Sister.
Last night he beat the crap out of her and is now in jail RIGHT WHERE HE BELONGS.  She also put a restraining order on him, so things are going forward for her.  I have let her know how proud I am of her and for her to keep her head up.

Thank you for your concern.

thank you RockRose, I spoke to her this morning and she informed me that he IS IN JAIL.  He beat her pretty bad, broke her nose.  I am proud of her for finally doing something about it.

scaredallalone,  the fact is,  anything is better to YOU than her current situation,  but she's not ready to leave and doesn't want to yet.  She may never want to.  She is able to express how awful it is,  but she's unwilling to leave.

Her story is so very common and so frustrating to battered women's shelters and to families of women in abusive relationships.  Women who are neglected leave at much higher rates than those who aren't neglected,  but rather,  emotionally and physically abused.

Until your sister wants to leave,  there's not much you can do for her.

Best wishes.  This is awful.

Thank You - I wish she would.  I told her to get a tent if she has to and find a reliable campground, anything is better then the current situation.

Lord knows I have tried but she is just so afraid and seems completely broken.  She is trying to find a place to go a little way from that area but doesn't have much free time.

There are times he isn't looking and she can leave then. She needs to stop telling him she's leaving because that may just stir him up. But she needs to leave. She isn't safe there. I pray for her.

Someone needs to call the police. He is the one who needs a shelter, with bars and locks and guards. She can file a restraining order against him and prevent  him from Legally coming near her but this stuff is complicated, I understand. This level of abuse takes its toll on a person but please encourage your sister to take the first step and have this animal arrested next time he hurts her.
