Does domestic abuse have to involve violence?

I recently move to Utah with my mother and my son.  She is, in my opinion mentally, emotionally, and verbally abusive.  I have been here for two months and realize I have to get myself and my  18 year  old son out of here.  I have not found a job yet and I am stuck for now.

For example, one day she told my son he should have been aborted.  She called him a coward for not getting up in high school and accepting his achievement award.  (He was too anxious)  This is only the tip of the iceburg and she does things like that on a daily basis.

Today was so bad my son talked of suicide, which of course I helped in through.

Can we get any help or do we have to be beat ???

It would be a good idea if you got something going as soon as you can and meanwhile tell your son to stay away from her as much as he can, have you asked her what her problem is speaking to her grandson like that, he is an adult so perhaps he can make some friends and do things with them until you can move into your own place..She is the one with the problem.maybe she cannot help it., have you tried standing up to her as we all have to with Bullies.

Lisa,  she sounds like a crabby mean old lady.

But I don't know what kind of "help" you could get - you are an adult,  and so is your son,  and it doesn't seem either of you are disabled.

If you called the cops they'd say it would be best if you lived somewhere else.
