7th month on Claravis

My 17 year old son has been on Claravis for 7 months.  He has gone frm 40mg to 80mg to 160mg to now alternating 160 one day, 240 mg every other day.  I fear the dose will bring about worse side effects.  He has back pain and is very involved in varsity sports.  He started with only very stubborn black heads and the claravis brought about the acne.  It has been a slow process but is slowly getting better.  My question is how long can someone be on this drug and do you see others taking this long to clear.   Also, CVS can no longer get Claravis and are not sure if it is being discontinued or not.

To be honest- I have NEVER heard of a dermatologist prescribing that high of a dose. How much longer is he suppose to be on it?

I am being honest, it is his 7th month and has been taking 160mg for the last 4 months and he is going to 240mg one day and 160mg the next, alternating.  Dr. is hoping to be done in two months.  Dr. says she has presribed this dose before but not very often.  Pharmacist says it is fine.  I am just wondering why it is taking so long.  He is still gettnig flare ups and much redness.  How long does this treatment take?

I was on it a full 6 months the first time and I'm on my second course now...On my first course I never really cleared up completed.
