Acne/Shaving

I am a 22 year old Caucasian male that has dealt with acne since I was a teenager. I used Accutane in highschool and had nearly clear skin for almost a year afterward. My acne is not nearly as bad as it used to be however it has returned. Forehead, chin, and back and are the most common areas. My problem now is shave bumps (whatever the right term for that would be) that basically are red marks. I grow a full beard in a week and shave it probably once a week as well. I have a red patch on my cheek, and marks on my neck, that are perpetuated by my weekly shave. They become less inflamed throughout the week and when I shave irritate them once again. Should I be using different products when shaving? I use a 3 step: "Skin Clearing" face wash, then shaving cream, and once done moisturize. Shave more often in a week? Should I be taking some sort of acne medication?

Thanks for your time,
Just J

i was in the same boat as you. this is what worked for me. instead  or a razor or a electric shaver, try buying a beard trimmer. a beard trimmer has almost eliminated alot of my acne problems that and a regimen i use.

Beard trimmers are not like electric shavers, beard trimmers give you a close trim as oppose to a shave. you will still be able to get a close enough shave where people wont notice with the trimmer, the only con is that you have to do it either every day or every other day. this will help with the razor bumps.

as or my regimen that worked for me. i have had bumps , expeically cystic acne for 33 years, up until 4 months ago i was a pimple face, i decided to stop drinking milk. i know drink almond milk it is free from the hormones that milk produces. i use this device called tanda its a blue light therapy it works for me, a bit expensive but worth it and i also use aspirin masks and apple cider vinegar as a cleanser.  try not to eat soda , chips and milk and see what happens?

Could it really be that simple to take milk out of my diet? I'm willing to try. How long of not drinking milk did it take for you to notice your complexion getting better?

Thanks for the great advice.

It took about 2 months for me to notice a difference. I truly believe milk plays a role. My daughter who is 11 is starting to get bad acne. Although she still drinks milk, everytime she stops for a week her complexion gets better. This worked for me, doesn't mean its the law of the land. Hormones in milk produce negative antigens or ahould I say a food allergy.  Google " milk and acne" and read many stories of people who stopped drinking milk. If you can for about a month stop drinking milk and soda and stop eating chips and mayo, you have nothing to lose if you try it. I also use "tanda " its a blue light therapy, google tanda and read a out it, you may like it.  Also do the aspirin masks and buy apple cider vinegar. Believe me I was in a desperate state, my job entails being with the public and I was very embarrassed by the way I looked. I tried everything nothing worked. I did my own thing and it has worked wonders for me. I was about to go on accutane before I found my niche. I am interested to know if you will try it and get back to me. GL from HA

I forgot to mention this. Shaving is a big problem when I comes to acne. I recommend buying a beard trimmer to avoid face and neck irritation. You can try any of my combinations or just do all of it. If money is tight, stop drinking milk, buy a beard trimmer and apple cider vinegar. If not I recommend  everthing I did.
