Hi. Acne is caused by high androgen levels or a particular sensitivity to the effects of androgens. This is particularly commonCommon cold during adolescencePuberty and adolescence but can occur at any age. Androgens are male hormones found in both male and female bodies. If you have more androgens than your body needs your sebaceous (oil) glands will produce too much sebum (oil). Pores become blocked with excess oil and bacteria which feeds off this oil, leading to spots.
You don't say what medication you take but I would recommend a course of oral antibiotics such as Lymecycline or Oxytetracycline in conjunction with a topical retinoid such as Retin-A or Differin. You will have to use your medication for as long as you are prone to acne.
If standard treatments result in failure or relapse, your GP can refer you to a dermatologist for Oral Isotretinoin (Accutane) the strongest acne medication available.
Best Wishes, Eloise.
I think a lot of people overlook simple solutions for acne and go right for the harsh medications. I took antibiotics to treat my acne for about a year and my teeth and legs started turning purple so I had to stop. I tried every possible topical product on the market and my skin would always have some sort of red, dry, irritated response. I could not take accutane because I have kidney problems, and I'm glad I didn't because almost everyone I know who has taken it, still has acne and has prematurely aging skin or some other long term complication. Sea Salt is a great remedy for all types of acne including back acne. If you have a bath tub, take baths or you can find oil free salt scrubs and some useful accessories for applying the salt online. Try Clarisea.
