my adult daughter's skin is badly damaged from past meth use. Does anyone out there have this problem ? She is also a type I diabetic. Her skin was beautiful as a teenager and now often breaks out with cysts and has lots of discolorations. Thank You.
Hi. There are lots of products which can help your daughter. Ask your doctor about "Retin-A", a topical retinoid which helps clear active acne and past scarring. This product can cause a bit of irritation, so she should use a bland cleanser such as Cetaphil or La Roche-Posay during treatment.
She may also benefit from taking an anti-androgen contraceptive pill such as Diane35/Dianette or Yasmin. These block the action of androgens- the hormones responsible for acne. People with acne have high levels of androgens or a particular sensitivity to the effects of androgens (although her drug use will not have helped her skin, it may not be the sole cause of her acne, and she should have her androgen levels checked).
There are some good camoflague make-ups which don't give a mask-like effect. La Roche-Posay make one called Toleriane -also buy one of their cleansers with high make-up removal power as soap won't get this make-up off.
Estee Lauder make a good Maximum Coverage foundation and Stay-in-Place concealor. They also make a good make-up remover.
