accutane and growth

My 17 year old son has severe acne which has not been helped by antibiotics and all of the prescription creams. I know he will have to go on accutane but in the past year he has grown 1" 1/4" and I have heard that accutane has stunted children's growth.  Should I start now or should I wait until his growth plates have fused together?

Stunted growth in children is a possible severe side effect of using Accutane and is usually accompanied by continuous joint pains, continuous muscle weakness, easily fractured or weak bones.  Unfortunately after two long sessions (well over 6 mos.), each a year apart, my bone density decreased and wound up with a fractured hand.  However, I didn't experience stunted growth when I started taking it at age 17, based on the fact I'm mid-height between my parents' height.

Boys can continue to grow past age 18, but an x-ray or bone scan can be done to determine if your son's growth plates have already closed or if there is still potential growth remaining.  Sometimes being slightly shorter is better than having severe acne scars because treatment didn't begin soon enough.  What does your son think?

accutane is very effective, however it has many side effects. i was a pimple faced kid and adult. i never tried accutane. i am pale skin, i have very oily skin. I tried every cream, precscribed or over the counter nothing worked.  while i still get acne i decided to do different regimens. i found something that worked, mind you , i have had acne y whole life. this is what i do and it was effective for me.

1. I stopped drinking Milk, i now drink almond milk.   Milk produces hormones that can cause a negative reaction to the skin, thus creating acne.  try to see if milk is the problem. you an also google milk and acne , you will be suprised.  try a substitute milk, like ,, rice, almond or coconut milk.

2.  i use aspirin masks once a week, put 3-4 aspirin in a small cup and dissolve with little water, let it turn into a paste, apply to face for about a few minutes and take it off. acne is inflamation (inflammation) and aspirin takes away inflamation (inflammation).

3. buy apple cider vinegar, this tuff works wonders, you can buy it in any pharmacy for a few bucks. apply every night.  This stuff really stinks so use it only before bed. Its a home acne remedy, but it can be used for many other things as well.

4. its a bit expensive, not sure if it works or not but , i bought tanda a blue light therapy. type tanda blue light therapy.

5. in the summer months have yuor child carry a dry towel and everytime he sweats he can wipe the sweat off.

this worked for me,  while i am not completely acne free, 90% of my acne is gone.

Accutane is effective and its worth trying. Me and my brother had acne and it ruined my confidence. He took accutane at 16 and is now 6'2" and it did not do anything to him. I took it at 25 and I had the same side effects, I wish I would have taken it at a younger age.

Alot of times, you as the person must find his or her own way. I have been to literally hundreds of dermatologist and not one prescribed drug worked for me. along the way i did my own research and became my own expert. I noticed a fee things along the way., many derms dont know what the heck they are talkig about.  many try to give you these creams and lotions to market the drug company.  I live in NYC the capital of dermatologists. i been to the best derms any person can go to. i was prescribed hundreds of creams and antibiotics, nothing has rally worked.
i decided to take my own actions, i did what was needed and while i still have pimples i am 90% free.  I would sugest you try a way eore you try accutane. accutane is effective but right now there is a huge lawsuit against the company for Colitis.  If you are in a rush yes try acutane but if you can wait  a month and try different methods than do so.  While i still go to derms for appeasement they have done nothing for me.  many couldnt answer my questions, many dont even want you to mention vitamins or remedies, most would automatically dismiss it.
