dermaplaning causing acne

by steph303, Sep 27, 2009 08:09PM
I tried dermaplaning (deep facial shaving) and was initially thrilled with the results. But now I have moderate acne, where I had none before. Do I treat this like regular acne or should I be trying something different?

Hi. "Regular" acne occurs when the patient has a sensitivity to the effects of androgens. Androgens are male hormones which occur in male and female bodies. Androgens stimulate the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin. Bacteria on the skin feeds off this excess oil, blocking the pores and resulting in inflammed acne spots.
I would be careful using topical acne meds on your skin if it is fragilised. Maybe use oral antibiotics (or anti-androgens if you are female, you don't say) with a bland cleanser such as La roche-posay.
Has this been diagnosed as acne or could it be allergic contact dermatitis from the procedure?
Did you have this procedure done in a salon or at home? What do the makers of this product say?
Eloise.
