i've had acne for 6 years...help!!

by morgiee44, Jun 15, 2008 08:13PM
hey. i'm 19. female. and have moderate acne on my face and back. i've had it for about 6 years and have tried everything. went to the dermatologist, and what they gave me didn't work. stuff i buy in the store KINDA helps on my face, but not completely, and it doesn't help my back at all. i'm on birth control, they told me it would work, but i've been on it for like 5 months now and it still isn't working. i even tried pro-active. it helped a little but it's too expensive and as soon as you stop using it your acne comes back. so can anyone tell me what i can do to get rid of it FOR GOOD!?? i'm tired of walking around hiding my face all the time. i'm tired of not being able to show my back. i'll try anything, so please help!

i am 16 and hae had acne since i was 13, i tried everything then went bak to the doctors and he gave me tablets called oxytetracyline which is 250mg.  this really helps i have this for 2 months and most of my acne on my back and chest is away and have no ance on my face now.  you should give it a go. i know how you mean you cant wear things that show your back i covered mine even to my family. people just dont relise how bad spots can put you down.  good luck hope it works for you too.

Hi. I agree with Lynsey, oral oxytetracycline is effective at clearing many types of acne. If your doctor feels you warrant both oxytetracycline and birth control for your acne, use a condom if you have sex as there is a risk that tetracyclines may reduce the contraceptive reliablity of the pill.
What did the dermatologist give you? Differin is the acne gel that dermatologists have found to be the most effective, especially when used in conjunction with oral remedies.
