I recommend talking to your doctor about an acne gel called Differin which is very effectiveEffective strength cough syrup at treating all types of acne including blackheads.
If you cannot receive prescription medicines at the moment due to lack of health insurance etc., there are many good over the counter products for large pores.
Clinique make a whole range of Pore Minimizing products. I also like an Estee Lauder product called "Idealist" which has a range of properties including dealing with redness and flakiness and reducing pore size.
Using an exfoliator and toner after cleansing will help. I love the facialFacial paralysis Facial tics Facial trauma wash for normalNormal saline flush/combination skin by Estee Lauder, it gives a real soap-and-water clean. Their exfoliator and toner for normalNormal saline flush/combination skin are also good.
Wearing the right make-up will help too, Clinique's new mineral powder foundation will reduce the apperance of large pores.

I HATED the pores on my nose! mine aren't all that big or anything, but...
I started using Biore pore minimizing products to clear up my skin and now I swear by them. My pores seemed to shrink drastically. Keep in mind though that different products have different effects on everyone.
I'm sure that the advice Eloise gave is probably better than mine, but if you are not wanting to spend a ton of money or get a prescription, I'd try something cheaper first.
