7 A.M. Fox Scare

i just had a huge scare here this morning!~ i was sitting in the chair taking my breathing treatment and we have a huge picture window that looks out over the acerage/woods of our yard...all of a sudden, about an acre out,  i see one of the cats take off running like the wind and then a BIG RED FOX chasing after it!! i couldnt believe my eyes! It was a big fox, but definitely not a coyote, it had the white tip tail and black legs (yes i could tell that detail from this far even with it running!). Scared the crapp out of me. I took off out the door without my shoes on or anything and ran out to the dog pen where the watch dogs stay in the barn outside and flipped the gate open yelling their names and giving their commandds (they hunt/kill rabbit/woodchucks that get in the veggie garden etc). So the dogs are running around sniffing for this thing, i dont see a thing anywhere, and all i can think about is it must be hiding in the bushes eating my damn cat =(
a few more minutes go by and here comes my cat down a tree meowing like mad, eyes as huge as saucers, fur all falling off (cats shed like crazy when they are stressed) and starts purring like mad on me! I was so relieved to see her alive!! I dont know how she outran that fox, cuz from where i saw the chase start in the yard, the closest tree was a pretty far distance and a fox runs pretty damn fast, lol.  Kitty musta kicked in the NITROUS and gunned it or something, whew!
The dogs never found the fox, he probably went back to his den by the pond Im guessing (which is on next property over, not our yard) THis worries me though cuz that neighbor told me a long time ago that a fox lived there, but Id never seen it before until today and am freaked out that it came in our yard and almost ate one of our cats! Now he will probably be over all the time looking for meals.

Call out the local riding stables for the first, annual Fox hunt! You witnessed a fairly rare event there. I am glad your cat escaped.

Sounds like you need to let them doggies a loose more often!  Glad your cat's ok!  ...and the b.b. sounds really good too!

I don't know exactly how to describe it, sort of demented (oh that sounds like me!) ...no really.  I just googled  and found "sounds of the fox", it's the first entry that comes up and has some wav files, the "fox calling out" is the one I'm talking about if you want to hear.  Spooky when it's nearby because it's really loud.

whats a fox sound make?? I did hear a weird noise out there but thought it was from one of the red tailed hawks that we disturbed with the dogs running about. I dont think ive ever heard a fox sound lol

I feel for you.  A few weeks ago I heard the unmistakable yelping of a fox right outside my back deck.  I switched on the light and there was one of my poor cats on the deck with the fox just a few feet away.  I opened the door, jumped out and screamed like a crazy person, fortunately it took off running (I always wonder what I'd do if it was rabid and came at me).

LOL yeah no kidding Missy, that got my heart pumpin!!!!!! good thing Id had a good dose of the breathing treatment by that point or I probably woulda keeled over out there from an asthma attack LOL
