Trazodone for Insomnia?

My doctor prescribed me this today, but I didn't realize what it was until I looked at the bottle after leaving the pharmacy. My dad had given me one of these a while back, and he said it worked really good. So I took it during a particularly bad period of insomnia, and it was scary! It didn't at all make me sleepy, it made my heart pound, and made me feel like I was going to **** my pants! I am tempted to take one, as I am not 100% positive that it was the same pill my dad gave to me. But, I just don't want to take that chance, I don't feel like laying in bed wondering if I am excreting my pants, while my heart pounds. Has anyone ever experienced the same things I did?

I am taking these little teasers back to the doctor. I call them teasers because they tease me into thinking they will work to help me sleep, and they never did.

By the way, I have read that trazodone is non-addictive, but is that really true? It kinda seems like it should be.

What dose are you at? I want to try taking it during the day to see what happens. I am just scared I will encounter the same effects I had when I first tried it. I am wondering if I take 100mg, and it only relaxes me, if I should split the pill in half and take one and a half tonight.

I am so insomnia-ed out. sigh

Ive used trazadone since I was 17. It is the ONLY drug that helps me sleep. It makes feels feel kinda like lead and then I pass out. When I first took it I was like this doesn't work and then bam 1 hour later I was out. Im 29 almost 30 and still take it, but Im at a high dose b/c Ive been on it so long!

I love your nickname!!!! I too have used trazadone in the past and it worked for me.I just build up a tolerance to drugs REALLY quickly, no matter what the drug is.I have issues with sleeping and have taken generic sleeping pills (over the counter) as well as prescritions. For o-t-c I've found that doxlymine sccinate (spelling-?) works foe me way better than the dipehnhydramine which is just benadryl I think. For natural remedies you can give melatonin a try....never worked for me though.Good luck to you, keep in touch.Anne

I used trazadone and found it to be both effective and safe.  Never had an adverse reaction such as you describe.  Good luck to you - I would think that your previuos expereince was as much fueled by your insomniac episode as by the med......
