How long before a script can be filled again?

Hi guys,

I wasn't sure where to post this question but I thought perhaps one of you might know. I had a terrible bout of pain these past few weeks and the doctor had me on an upped doe of my pain meds (narcotics) scheduled to run out tomorrow. The odd thing about that however is that tomorrow (the day that I see him again), is only the third week of the month. Not the fourth.

Will the pharmacy be able to fill the prescription for me? I'm worried that I will be out of meds for an entire week. I had to spend last weekend in the ER due to severe pain as it is. I wouldn't want to go there just for medications again now. Does anyone know how it's handled or if things will be okay? Thanks, everyone.

I know what you mean about being judged by your meds! I was always so scared when I ran out of oxycontin or oxycocet and had to call my surgeon's office. His nurse was always kind, but I felt like she was probably thinking I was a drug seeker. I was in serious pain with a herniated disk, but I had never been on anything beyong Tylenol #3 before this year, so I couldn't help but feel guilty for needing stronger meds.

Everything turned out okay. I was really happy with the results and just well, everything.
Thanks for helping to alleviate my fears. That's half of the struggle, really. Dealing with all the stress of going up to the pharmacy counter. Will they turn me away? Will they yell at me or make me feel bad? I'm already feeling terrible!

Thank you for your help.

Good luck to all of you with your addiction problems. I had an addiction problem once myself. Unfortunately, I also have a very real and serious pain problem. After a period of time I learned how to schedule my medicine appropriately and didn't abuse it anymore. It wasn't worth all the ups and downs of the withdrawals and pain/mood swings. I wish you all the power that I know you have tucked deep down inside of you.

I'll post a link to a NYtimes article article I'd found this week that was helpful to me regarding how to actually BOOST your willpower. Amazing.

Good luck, friends.

My dr gave me a script for 30 viks and it's written for 1 every 8 hours as needed for pain. So up to 3 a day, which is a 10day supply. So my insurance will fill after 10 days. So it depends if you have ins. I've gone to a different pharmacy before and filled and just said I don't have ins, you just have to pay for it. -zoe

I have been on vicodin and soma for 7 years and EVERY month I get my RX refilled on DAY 24 from the date on the last bottle. Seems my insurance co. will refill on the 24th day. Sometimes the Walgreens employee would tell me it was too early. I would just take it to Winn Dixie. But, happy to say have C/T 6 days off soma today and 3 days off the vicodin. WISH ME LUCK here. But hope that answers your question. .Precious Pearl

thanks so much for your help.

I'll let you know how it turns out tomorrow when I get back from the pharmacy. I hope all turns out okay. I hate these pharmacists sometimes. I'm in the hospital so often due to flare-ups and when I need prescriptions filled from the hospital or from my pain doctor they are always giving me the evil eye. ='(

You will be fine. As long as your dr writes the script, the pharmacy will fill it. I know from experiences, many times.
