Once you stop abusing opiates... does your body recover?

I successfully stopped abusing Oxycontins and Roxicets for a month now.  My biggest concern is will my body ever rebound from the abuse I caused? In other words, lets say I was in the hospital or I suffered from a physical injury of some sort etc, would a low dose medication provided by a Doctor actually do what it was intended to do? With the amount of mgs that I was taking at the end of my addiction, no 5 mg percocet prescribed or administered would alleviate any pain that I was experiencing from actual medical emergency. Do our nervous systems recover to be capable of responding to low dose pain medication or has my body been conditioned to only respond to extremely strong opiates?

I THINK that your body WILL RECOVER.... (not sure as I'm only a newbie to the world of being clean)
When I was using (Norco  8-10 /day x's 3 years) whenever I went to the Dentist, I had to have ALOT of novacaine in order for them to work on my "choppers"

Hafent been to the dentist since I quit using (32 days ago) but I have an appointment coming up this month and I'll let you know how it goes....

Hang in there and keep posting.. We're ALL out here for you!

To answer your question....LOL....I don't know....I sure hope that after time, a normal dose of pain meds would do the trick. It's really scary thinking if I was in an accident or something, that I would have to be in terrible pain.
I'm pretty sure that your body does return to normal in this regard, but I'm sure we would always want more pain meds.

"I successfully stopped abusing "..?  Does that mean you have totally stopped taking any opiates?  Or have you just stopped "abusing" them?
