If Dr Feelgood knows medical protocol and no ones had benzo proublems before he will probably comply. Doesnt sound like you have "terrible" realtionship with him. Really, thats why doc's are around - to help people with problems....you are not bad folks, you have a sickness. At least you can cure sickness - bad is forever!

Check Thomas Recipe - use heat pads for RLS - benadryl, melatonin, sleepytime tea (celestial seasonings) for sleep, immodium for runs, emetrol for stomach prob's or prilosec (depends) - going ct takes up to a week to get back in good shape - - things get better at 3-5 days.   IF you can taper down it will go easier - it takes mega discipline & will to taper - usually someone else to issue pills appropriately. Many ways to do and deal with this. Use the forum and read even the archives to keep yourself and your efforts in perspective. Its soooooo easy to think another pill or two would change things. Dont even go there.......best of the day to you -  -eagle out

Thanks a bunch. Should I go to "Dr. Feelgood" (LOL) for the Valium? Probably not the best idea unless we actually tell him that we want to stop the Lortab....which in my opinion may not be a bad idea. He is not a horrible Doctor, and he does listen, the problem is that if you say you are in pain, he does not question it unless you go in there acting like a maniac....if u say u r depressed, he gives u anti-depressant......that sort of thing, but I honestly think if I tell him that we want to quit, he may help us in any way that he can without making it a public thing because of our children. Not sure what to do.......

I just got done talking with a dude that doesnt see how he could have a problem Been doing the hydro's for six years as doctor directed....its just a physical fact that you can become addicted to prescription amounts with the right historical context. Even though you never deviate from the directions. Its an accululative thing. Along with mental anticipation of next legal dose. Maybe a short run of benzo's (hopefully valium) can relieve RLS and get him some sleep. Take the others advice...use Thomas Recipe if you cant consult Dr feelgood anymore. And find a different Doc that will be interested in you as a patient. Best of luck to you. Come back - anyone here can probably talk to you about Lortabs.

You did not offend me or anyone else. We are here to help each other
That is a catch 22. If you go to him for help, he will cut you off
Hope to see you again
Best of luck.

Thank you and I did not mean anything by my comment about not taking as many.....I just read a few of the posts and ppl said they were taking 5 at one time and sorry if I may have offended anyone. I take 1 pill about every 4-6 hours. Which in my opinion is still a lot. I appreciate your help. Where I live it is now 2:30 a.m. and I am exhausted so I am off to bed....but I will surely be back. It seems as if everyone has very helpful, useful, and kind things to say. I am glad that I found this site. You all seem to be very supportive towards each other. P.S. Yes I get my prescription from an actual physician. There is also a catch 22 to that though, in my community, he is not a very reputable Dr. and he is known for not asking, just prescribing.

First........above, you will see substance abuse addiction community. If you click on that part of the forum in the day or evening, you will get a lot of responses. I will hold you over till then.lol   There are a lot of people on here who can help you. That is a lot to be taking for years. In my opinion you are addicted. You do not need to be taking this type of med. for a herniated disc. It should have healed by now. You have a few options to get off the pills. You can try to taper, which hardly ever works with addicts. Or, you can go cold turkey. I was on about 60 mg a day and I did c/t. You will feel like you have the flu for about a week. On this forum, there is a ton of info to make the week a bit easier. Then you will need after care to stay clean. You have taken the first step, by realizing you have a problem. If you get your pills from a lagit doctor, talk with him. You mentioned, that you did not take many pills like the rest of the people on here. But, it sounds to me. You are in the same boat. Be calm, come up with a plan to quit. You will be ok.

I am prescribed Lortab 10/500 6 times per day as needed. I take them for a ruptured disc in my back and other back problems. I take the six per day and if I do not have them for some reason, I get very moody. I feel like I have to have them just to do daily activities but I have 3 children and unfortunately my husband has the same prescription for the same reason and takes the same amount. We both would like to not take them anymore because we are afraid that we are addicted to them and it scares us to death. I would like to know the best way to stop taking them and for my spouse, he can not sleep without them. He gets restless leg syndrome if he does not have them at bedtime.

Well, what do you take, and why do you take them? What happens if you stop taking them? How much do you take?

Thank you for replying. I have noticed that most everyone takes a large amount of pills at a time or in one day....that is not the case with me and I have been taking them for a few years now. I just wanted to know if it is still an addiction because I feel like it is.
