Tax Times .....

Does anyone have any tax stories that the statutes have run out on?  I sorta do.......it was the first year we lived off - campus in our own rental house. 2 of us had already done our taxes and were ready for refunds. Scott (third roomie) was grumbling about how hard the taxes were and maybe a pre-law friend was called for and etc. Being the friend that I am - I offerred to do his taxes for him right then with no charge!!  This was on a Friday afternoon.....that Sundays party at the Kappa Sigma house had started the previous Wednesday and we were still in attendance.   Weeks passed. Finally a letter from the Director of the Internal Revenue Service arrived for Scott. The letter indicated that the IRS felt that we were good people with no criminal intent. BUT they had no idea what we had in mind when that return was filed. They were kind enought to volunteer that they had Staff refigure Scotts return and a check would be forthcoming for an extremely more conservative amount of refund. We could, of course, contest in a Court of Law if we wished...........

I dont remember the amount ......... but it was approximately three times his income!!
