I want to hear how all you guys stopped

If you don't mind sharing i'd really like to hear everyone out there's story, but mainly just how you decided to stop in the end? Did it work? Did it take a few times? Did you relapse before being to stop for good? What were your thoughts as you were stopping? I'd especially love to hear from any oxycontin or other opiate users. THanks guys

When I realized I was in trouble...I had decided to quit taking hydro...started having wds...went to dr..she just poopooed me off..told me to keep taking my pills...I went home set a quit date..on that date I flushed all my pills...and never looked back..I am loving life again...so proud to be clean...I am on 90 something days....Wasnt a addict of even a year....but it still freaks me out that I could become a addict so easily...So glad I woke up when I did...WIDE AWAKE NOW...EYES WIDE OPEN...NEVER AGAIN..

I became allergic to drugs. :->  (actually, some truth to this)

I then adopted/ created a "new philosophy" that works nicely in all aspects of life. I call it "The Will and the Way".

I got tired of lying and being sneaky to get my prescription for Xanax refilled.  Yes, I'm an addict but also began to really hate myself so I joined a drug rehab program at the Native Center.  I've been weaning off Xanax very, very slowly.  We go to weekly meetings, have a counsellor and a mentor who is available all the time - even in the middle of the night - if the cravings hit.

It took me plenty of times to get it right.I thought I couldn't stop on my own so I went the methadone route,BIG mistake,at least for me.Not saying it doesn't work for some.I wanted to quit going to that clinic for months before I finally got up one Saturday morning and just decided NO MORE!!! I don't know what it was that changed. All I can say is that I believe I was FINALLY ready.Ready to stop and ready to do and go thru whatever it took to get there. That was over a year ago.Life is worth living again. One of the roughest things I've ever gone thru in my life but definitely one of the most rewarding also......Kim

It took an OD and a few tries for me to get it right. But it did finally work. I also agree with jollyman that its one of the best things that I ever did.

Well 83 days ago, I decided I was just tired of being under the control of pain meds..Morphine and percs, I had a 4 year love affair with them. When I went to the dr I told him I was not going to take anymore and went cold turkey.

I am happy now not depressed in very little pain, and I am so so happy I have my life back and it was so worth being sick and dealing with the mental issues.Best thing I ever did!!!!!
