What is the one thing that has contributed the most to your recovery?

I posted this on the other forum last night while beachtowel and I were talking.  The thing that has been the most important to him is honesty.  Mine is my son and daughter.

Like I said on the other forum, you can't quit for anyone but yourself.  But the part of myself that I care about the most is the mommy part.  That is above and beyond everything else.  My little ones have taught me more than doctors and teachers ever could.  Just by being them and being my heart and soul.

What is the one thing that has been the most important to you in your recovery?

Back in the 80s it was my daughter.   Now its my health and family..two of my kids are older and the yongest is 14.  They still need me but not as much as before.

Beach is right though, honest is crucial.  It is the key to step one in NA.

I quit because my son joined the Navy and I can't have him worrying about mom back home. It was
down to two weeks before he graduated bootcamp. Well, what was I going to do? have enough pills to get me thru?Have the w/d's when I went to go see him? There was only one thing that I could do and be well in chicago when I went to see him. I came clean with my doctor and told him I had been abusing my meds. It was my only choice as far as I am concerned. And It was the right choice. For the kids. They say you have to want to or for yourself, but eventually it does all come down to me.
My problem is people out here and can't find it within themselves to stop and the kids are right there.
Not asking for any of this and I just pray these ppl will come and find a way from the noose around their neck holding them down. The KIDS the KIDS the KIDS!!! Thats why.
